This piece is handwoven with various cotton yarns and rope, silk and bamboo yarn, and wool roving and yarn. This piece is meticulously woven with a variety of different textural techniques. I was inspired to create a piece with texture as the main design element. I often use color in my work to create interest, but I believe that texture is just as powerful of a design element. While there are subtle tonal differences in this monochromatic weaving, the main points of interest are the various textures throughout.
The piece is displayed on a copper rod. Over time, copper naturally oxidizes and darkens in color. If you desire for it to return to a shiny state, simply use lemon juice to polish.
